FAQ
If this is such a good idea, why haven’t I seen chairs like this before?
If you search for “car seat office chair” you’ll find plenty of DIY attempts.
We aren’t the first to come up with the idea because it makes perfect sense.
What we are first at, is designing a solution that’s elegant, ergonomic and affordable, all thanks to modern technology and professional mechanical engineering experience.
Did we already mention how modest we are?
Why would I choose a car seat office chair over a high-end gaming/office chair?
If you’ve ever sat in a gaming chair for more than a few minutes, you’ll know how their price reflects the comfort. Higher-end chairs are better but still limited by:
- Shipping cost: Bulky chairs would be a lot more expensive to ship from overseas, so padding and size are kept to a minimum.
- Manufacturing cost: High-quality foam is pricey. Car seats are built for comfort and quality feel because they’re an important part of car's value and appeal.
Chairs need to turn a profit themselves. - Durability: Car seats are designed for long-term comfort and to withstand 20+ years of use. Compare that to gaming chairs.
- Design expertise: Car seats are designed by teams of experts, same can't be said for gaming chairs that often look and feel the same.
Car seats just bring more expertise, comfort and quality to the table (or desk).
Are the chairs stable? What happens if I recline all the way back?
Yes, our chairs are very stable, even in a fully reclined position. Lunchtime nap certified!
We give cheap nylon 5-spoke bases a wide berth and only use large aluminium bases for maximum stability.
Our seat bases are designed with aid of FEA structural simulation to ensure long-lasting rigidity. We’ve been making our chairs since 2019 with zero failures.
I weigh more than average. Will I find the chair comfortable? What’s the weight limit?
Our chairs use parts certified up to 150 kg, but because of the added weight of the car seat and our built-to-last components, the maximum user weight is 130 kg (20 stone).
As for comfort, it depends on the seat you choose - car seats are generally larger than standard office chairs and work well for larger builds. Just avoid heavily bolstered sports seats like M Sport, S-line, AMG, etc.
The seats have built-in airbags. Are they safe?
Yes, airbags are designed to stay dormant unless a specific voltage is applied to their double-insulated wiring with distinctive, yellow connectors. As long as you don’t connect anything to those wires, the airbag will never deploy.
Will you design a conversion kit for my car?
We created a poll where you can vote on what car model you’d like us to make a kit for. While we can’t promise to create a kit for every top request, your vote will definitely be considered.

I love the idea of sitting in one of the kit chairs, but I don’t want to deal with sourcing the seat or the assembly. Can you build one for me?
What keeps the costs of our conversion kits reasonable is cutting out the extra expenses that come with sourcing, assembly, handling, and shipping fully assembled chairs.
This process only makes financial sense for our luxury chairs, where those costs are a smaller portion of the overall value.
We will occasionally offer chairs built at the launch of a new kit but if there are none available check next FAQ question for some alternative solutions.
I have no mechanical knowledge or experience, will I be able to assemble the chair using your conversion kit?
Our kit isn’t any harder to assemble than a typical gaming or office chair that comes in a box. We provide detailed, step-by-step instructions with plenty of pictures. The only difference is the tools. Typically you’ll need a medium-sized socket set with basic Allen keys, Torx bits, and metric sockets.
If you don’t have those tools, we suggest:
- Ask a "handy" relative or friend to help out - our chairs are guaranteed to intrigue any petrolhead or DIY enthusiast.
- Contact a mobile car mechanic in your area. They have the tools and experience to assemble the chair in no time and should charge no more than 1 or 2 hours labour plus travel costs.
I’m still worried I’ll get stuck during the conversion process. Do you offer technical support?
We’re here to help! Our instructions are super detailed but if you get stuck or have a question before purchasing, get in touch! All our details are on the contact page.
It all sounds a bit too good to be true. Where’s the catch?
We want you to be thrilled with your chair. Here’s what you might want to consider before buying:
- Weight: Car seats are designed with a lot of padding and built for crash rigidity, making them significantly heavier than standard chairs. Expect the built chair to weigh around 35kg.
- Size: Car seats are bulky, with added armrests they take up more space than your average office chair. We provide approximate dimensions in the product description, double-check that you’ve got enough room around your desk.
- Cosmetic imperfections: Since you’ll be using a second-hand car seat, some wear and tear is likely. Whether from previous use, handling, or shipping. Even if the photos suggest perfect condition expect some minor imperfections.
Other than that, we can’t think of any other downsides, the comfort really is next-level!
Any advice before buying a seat for conversion?
- Choose a manually adjustable seat: Ensure the seat is a non-electric version, the kits do not fit electrically operated seats.
- Verify compatibility: Confirm the seat matches the kit’s specifications (model, generation/year, and trim level). If you're unsure, feel free to message us for assistance.
- Inspect the condition: Carefuly check the seat’s condition. If the ad photos are grainy ask for clearer images, especially focused on any wear or defects.
- Opt for a passenger seat if possible: Passenger seats experience less use so are often in better condition than driver’s seats.
I want to buy a single seat, but most ads are for a full interior. What should I do?
Here are some options:
- Get a friend to buy a chair with you. We offer a discount on a pair of conversion kits, so you both save on seats, postage, and kits.
- Buy a single seat from further away and have it shipped - some breakers charge as little as £25 for shipping a single car seat.
- Ask the seller if they would split the set. Mentioning our kits may help convince them, as single seats for that model become in demand. Keep in mind, the rear bench and door trims usually have no value, so expect to pay about 50% of the full interior price.
Do you ship the kits outside the UK?
Being a small business we don’t currently have the capacity to handle the post-Brexit bureaucracy for international shipping. However, we recommend using forward2me, a reliable service that provides you with a UK address for shipping. They handle the paperwork and forward your order to you for a reasonable fee. Just keep in mind, VAT and import duties will apply. Forward2me will give you a breakdown of all costs before you commit to anything.
Returns - what if I change my mind or buy the wrong seat?
If there’s an issue with any part of the kit or chair, rest assured we’ll do everything possible to resolve it promptly, at no cost to you and with minimal inconvenience.
Changed your mind? No problem. You have 14 days from delivery to return your item. Please note that return shipping is your responsibility, and items must be securely packaged to avoid damage in transit.
This also applies to conversion kits purchased for the wrong seat. If you're unsure about compatibility, contact us before ordering - we're happy to help!
